Interns Wanted

The John D. Calandra Italian American Institute (Queens College, CUNY) and i-Italy.org are seeking students to intern in book design, web maintenance, journalism, economics/marketing, and TV production.

• Interns in book design will work with the Institute’s editorial staff in pre-publication stages and book pagination, as well as the production and maintenance of databases. Knowledge of InDesign and Filemaker Pro or Access/Excel is a plus!
• Interns in web maintenance will work to update the Institute’s web-sites.
• Journalism interns will have the opportunity to become part of one of two groups. One group of students will work on writing, in English and/or Italian, in different sections of the web-portal i-Italy (www.i-Italy.org) and on i-Italy's periodical print publications. The second group will be involved in video journalism and post-production.
• Internships in TV production are also available to work on the Institute’s TV program Italics, which airs once a month on CUNY TV.
• Economics/marketing interns will have the opportunity to work for the marketing activities related to i-Italy, which include direct contact with companies, institutions, and associations and organization of various types.
All interns will be considered part of the i-Italy staff and according to the performances there will be future work opportunities beyond the internship period.

Can I just say how disappointed I am to have spent five weeks in Italy this summer, and to find Italian artists that I enjoy, but not be able to download them on I-tunes. I hate adding applications to my computer for other music downloading sites, so it looks like I will have to do it the old-fashioned way....order import CD's online =(

How in the world are we going to get young Italian-Americans to preserve their heritage when we're surrounded by negative stereotypes in the media?

Lately, I feel like I'm surrounded by this negative Italian American stereotyping. But, I have to say its not stereotyping by other cultural groups....it seems our own home grown Italian Americans are putting themselves in this box of negativity. By this, I mean acting like or comparing themselves to 'mobsters' or 'wise guy' type personas. Now, we have shows like the Sopranos, which was attacked because of the negative stereotyping. But mind you I think the problem with that show is the audience… Continue
