About Me:
I am a first-generation American. My father and his family emigrated here just prior to WWII. All four of my grandparents come from the same small town in Puglia, thus affording me a very concentrated Italian identity. I spent some of my college years studying in Rome, and have made many trips to Italy after that time. I continue to study Italian and attend many Italian cultural events here in NYC.
I am a psychoanalyst and psychotherapist, in private practice in NYC and Hoboken. Both during and after graduate school I had the opportunity of working in mental health clinics in Bensonhurst and Bay Ridge, with the Italian-American community of Brooklyn. I am interested in both raising the consciousness of Italian-Americans regarding mental health issues, and also encouraging much more solidification of the Italian-American identity.
I am in the process of procuring my Italian citizenship.

Addio, Signora Lalli...

A few weeks ago, the Italian American community of New York City lost one of its most inspiring members.
Signora Franca Lalli founded the Italian language school, "Parliamo Italiano" on East 65th Street, more than 25 years ago.
Over time, its student body grew from a few dozen to 700 members, devoted to the study of this wonderful language of ours. Signora Lalli promoted the exploration of Italian literature and culture with her warmth, enthusiasm and a native Italian teaching staff. Under her g… Continue

Dear Lucienne,

I look forward to meeting you there. We attend many of these events at IIC and also at Casa Italiana in Greenwich Village. Molfetta is in the Provincia di Bari, no? Patricia

Hi Lucienne,

Two years ago we filmed much of the procession in Hoboken and used it for a trailer for a film dealing with Italian Americans and racism, dealing with Bensonhurst. We tried to shoot the festival on 18th ave, but when they heard the film dealt with racism, they chased us away. Even though I spent the first 10 years of my life there, they didn't want any part of us. When we shoot the feature, we'll have to try and keep a low profile.

The top and center photos taken at the Hoboken Italian Feast, honoring La Madonna dei Martiri, and sponsored by the Molfettese community of NewJersey. This feast takes place the second weekend in September, every year, for the past 80 years.
The bottom photo was taken in Padua on my way to the Scrivegni Chapel.
