E' un'idea. All'apparenza già vista, ma a ben leggere piuttosto nuova. I think there is a well of untapped stories about Italo-Americans which has not been explored. Other than the usual stories a la Godfather - there isn't much work about the Italian life in America years after immigration. As a first generation American, or how my mother would say - figlia d'Italiana - I've observed first hand the changes in a culture when outside of their homeland and how it manifests itself in different ways. For each person who has left their home to live in another country there is a different theme - a different story. As generations go by, these stories become diluted or sadly, forgotten.
There is a need for people who, like me, are in the space between Italy in America, connected to both places in various degrees, to write about that space and what it's like living in it. It is both beautiful and bittersweet at the same time. It also serves as a way to keep our personal histories alive. As our parents die, sometimes their stories die with them. Whether one writes memoir or fiction does not matter - it is important that one writes.
I have been slowly working on some short stories which are not yet ready for any type of publication - but when they are - I may put them in my blog here. Please come by and join.
I can read the posts here in Italian but writing it - I didn't want to embarass myself!

The Associazione Culturale Officine Teatrali is interested in receiving one act plays on family violence to women. The most interesting plays will be present in the next artistic season 2008/2009 on a sperimental theatre circuit: “Home scene”.
