Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I am a first generation American. My parents are both from small towns outside of Cassino.

I speak better dialect than the grammatically correct Italian - which is a good thing because it seems the dialects are slowly passing away.

I learned how to read and write Italian by following Patty Pravo's lyrics on the sleeve of 'La Bambola' 45.

Everytime I smell the aroma of wet dirt after it rains - I think about the first day I spent in Italy in the summer when I was twelve.
Favorite Music:
I have eclectic tastes and enjoy several different styles of music.

Italian music - I love Massimo Ranieri's interpretations of the songs of Napoli - as well as Renzo Arbore and his Orchestra. I love old Italian top 40 - such as I Camaleonti, I Profetti (Era Bella), Anna Melato (Sta Piovendo Dolcemente) and the list can go on and on.
Favorite TV Shows:
Seinfeld aficionado. 'Lost' addict. I like to laugh and cry - sometimes together.

I loved 'Orgoglio' - which I had to watch on RAI Click via computer. Wonderful show!
Hometown:
Central Massachusetts

I was ahead of the game because I spoke Italian - though dialect - at home. We covered the parts of the body, how to ask fundamental questions like how are you and what's your name. One da… Continue

Provenance

I usually get a blank stare when people ask me what part of Italy my family is from and I respond - **** My mother is from San Giorgio a Liri and my father is from Sant'Apollinare. Oh. It's two hours south of Rome and an hour north of Naples. Oh? Yes - during the war the Gustav Line went through this area. Battle of Monte Cassino - the abbey... Yeah, I think I've heard of that. I usually feel bad right about now - the conversation stalls. I ask them where their family is from. Sicily. U… Continue

Hello!

As an Italian/American writer you must have an opinion on the teaching of the Italian language in the United States...

Why don’t you help the i-italy crew to try to save the AP Italian program? Add a comment to the discussion we’ve just started!!!
